Oxidative Phosphorylation

Definition: Oxidative phosphorylation is used to produce ATP aerobically. Oxidative phosphorylation is the main energy pathway for producing energy during light activity.1

Simplified Biochemical Reaction:

Fatty Acids (fats) or Blood Glucose + O2 + ADP + Pi --> CO2 + ATP + H2O (yes, metabolizing food produces water)

(don't worry, I'll explain these terms in the near future)2

Effects of Exercise

With increased aerobic exercise, a higher percentage of fat will be utilized for exercise, offering a more sustainable energy supply.3

Important Details
This is the primary pathway for supplying energy during light activity.
